Welcome to Insect fauna of the Australian Capital Territory

The first aim of this project is to provide a comprehensive list of the insect species that are known to occur in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

Additional information on each species will be provided as time and opportunity permit. This will cover topics such as geographical distribution within the ACT and globally, phenology and life history including ecological relationships.

The physical environment of the ACT will be briefly described to provide an ecological context for the fauna.

    Several popular general accounts of the insect fauna of the Australian Capital Territory exist. These accounts mention a small number of conspicuous or otherwise noteworthy elements of the fauna, or concern pest species. In addition, local species lists have been published for a few small taxonomic groups. However, there is no comprehensive species list covering the whole fauna. This work is an attempt to fill that gap.
